About Manipur Urban Development Agency (MUDA)

The Ministry of Urban affairs and Employment Government of India, clubbed together the erstwhile schemes of NRY, UBSP and PMIUPEP and instead introduced Swarna Jayanti Shahari Rojgar Yojna (SJSRY) since December 1997. The Schemes seeks to provide gainful employment to the urban unemployed poor through encouraging the setting up of self employment ventures or provision of wage employment. this programme also seeks to create suitable community structures and delivery of inputs through the Medium of urban Local bodies and Community structures.

At the state level Manipur Urban Development Agency (MUDA) is the nodal authority, headed by Director, MAHUD, as secretary and Minister MAHUD as chairman.

MUDA is a government undertaking under the Ministry of Municipal Administration, Housing & Urban Development, Manipur. It is a registered Govt. undertaking bearing Registration 49/SR/MANIPUR of 1997 under the Manipur Societies Regn. Act. 1989 (Manipur Act1 of 1990).

To reduce poverty and vulnerability of the urban poor households by enabling them to access gainful self employment and skilled wage employment opportunities,resulting in an appreciable improvement in their livelihoods on a sustainable basis,through building strong grassroots level institutions of the poor.The mission would aim at providing shelters equipped with essential services to the urban homeless in a phased manner.In addition,the mission would also address livelihood concerns of the urban street vendors by facilitating access to suitable spaces,institutional credit,social security and skills to the urban street vendors for accessing emerging market opportunities.
